Migrant workers and allies march to the Home Secretary’s Office in Birmingham
Migrant workers rights national demo was held in Birmingham on 13th December 2025.
Migrant workers from across the country and their allies marched from St Martins Square to Shabana Mahmood’s office, despite the rough weather.
One of the demonstrators, Fatema Hickson said, “I attended the demo last week because I am unhappy with the way migrant communities are being treated by this government. We depend on migrant workers but they are being seen as being dispensable, they should be valued and appreciated not made to feel insecure and be exploited.”
Rally organisers’ leaflets described the aim of the rally as being to show that “we support and defend each other” following the harsh immigration laws that are being pushed out by politicians.

First was the march from St Martins Square to Shabana Mahmood’s office. The long walk was characterised by well-known chants such as “Say it Loud, Say it Clear – Refugees are Welcome Here!” but there were also lesser-known ones such as “Migrants have rights – Here to stay, Here to fight!”

There were also many speakers from various migrants groups including Regularise, NotStranger Campaign, Lift the Ban etc
In her speech Emma from Asylum Matters said “The government announced that people have to prove their worth by showing that they are working. At the same time so many people are not allowed to work. Migrants are the backbone of our country. I am ashamed by the way we treat them”
The demo concluded with a big banner rollout that read “Migrants Rights are Workers Rights”
“It was a long walk. It was freezing. But do we have a choice?” said one of the protestors who did not want to be named.
