Planning and Staying Safe

5 August 2024: There are various lists of how to stay safe in these dangerous times. Here is some, hopefully, helpful, safety-planning guidance if you are in an area where there is trouble, or you are feeling unsafe. Please be safe, and, as I know everyone will, help others to be as well:

Make sure wherever possible you are not alone, especially when travelling or in public spaces.
Stick to well lit areas and public spaces
Don’t wear anything with an organisation or advocacy brand or slogan when in public
Report anything which you think is suspicious
Stay informed about what is happening in your area
Try and avoid planning (and attending) events at this time. If they cannot be avoided ensure there are clear risk assessments in place and you are liaising with the authorities
Don’t post anything which could identify your location, or that of others, online.
Keep in touch with friends and family so they know where you are, when you are liable to arrive at places etc.
Ensure you know the layout of the building you are in, including all points of entry and exit, fire escapes etc
Try and use different routes to and from places you regularly visit
Ensure that you protect your social media accounts, including having location settings turned off

If you want to stand up against the hate-speak of the far right on the streets, join a group that knows how to manage the situation., don’t go it alone.
